INASP

The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) is a registered UK charity established by the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 1992. The organisations work focuses on achieving sustainable and equitable development through effective communication, knowledge and networks. INASP responds to the needs of developing and emerging countries for access to scholarly information; use of appropriate information communication technologies; and regional, national, and international co-operation, networking and knowledge exchange.

The Brief

The scope of the project was to cover the design, build, and implementation of a new content managed website for INASP.
Specific objectives included the following:

  • Increase awareness and engagement with different target user groups (publishers, editors, librarians, researchers, and ICT professionals)
  • Design an accessible, usable website, with fast page loads, for all users to find information quickly and easily.
  • Enable delivery of restricted content for registered users e.g. ‘country coordinators’.
  • Provide simple website administration for non-technical users to manage all website content easily.
  • Deliver a scalable, reliable content management system that is cost-effective to support and maintain

The WORKSsitebuilder Solution

The WORKSsitebuilder CMS solution for INASP provides a powerful yet simple system to enable non-technical staff to take control of the website content, community, and marketing.

A range of content types and features were deployed for INASP’s news, events, projects & activities; publications; and directories. The site structure enables INASP to manage content delivery as required for different key audience types, and for each country the organisation works with. The system also facilitates the delivery of restricted information to registered INASP users and country coordinators to deliver the right content to the right people at the right time.

The website design focussed on accessibility, usability, and standards compliance, and was intentionally kept very simple in order to maintain site speed and performance for users accessing the site on low bandwidths.

The Result

WORKSsitebuilder has given INASP a powerful and flexible content management system enabling the effective delivery of timely accurate information, accessible to all INASPs user groups. All website content is easily managed and kept up to date by non-technical staff, saving the organisation on administrative time and costs.

The website has been developed in an agile and iterative way as the least risk and most cost-effective approach to accommodate INASPs evolving requirements and priorities. Recent work has included design and template updates, in particular improvements to the country pages content structure and design to clearly present the full depth of information available relevant to each particular country that INASP works with. This has helped audience engagement and effective communication especially for INASP’s country coordinators.
